Marriage search, pls help a novice
« on: Tuesday 05 April 05 19:55 BST (UK) »
Hello everyone,

I have very scant details and am trying to narrow down the possibilities:

I am looking for a Marriage as follows:

Groom:                 Eric Butler
Bride:                   Elizabeth Hinch
Year:                    Circa 1960

The only facts I have are:

My wife is their daughter, she was born in 1961 in Beverley, which I believe comes under East Ridings, Yorkshire. She knows she was born in wedlock.

She has no contact with either of them, save that she knows her Mother is still alive.

My logic therefore is that the marriage was pre 1961.

Any input / advice greatfully received.

Thankyou very much

David

Have you searched the GRO Marriage Index in your local register office? These are available for all of England and Wales (even if you are not in the same region as you are searching for) You only need to apply for a Marriage Certificate from the relevant Records office if the entry you are searching for is found:
http://www.eastriding.gov.uk/libraries/archives/index.html

The Registration District Reference for Beverley should be 2A (for the years 1946 - 1965)

For your information only: Within the electoral roll there are around 30 Butler's living in Beverley now no Eric or Elizabeth's & 11 Hinch's listed

There are 11 Eric Butler's & 28 Elizabeth Butler's & 1 Elizabeth Hinch listed within the electoral roll, living in Yorkshire as a whole

Regards Jen

Hi David

Found the following on Yokshire bmd

Yorkshire Marriage indexes for the years: 1954
Surname Forename(s) Surname Forename(s) Church / Register Office Registers At Reference
BUTLER Eric HINCH Betty Hull Register Offices Hull HRO/79/157

Using the reference at the end you can apply to the Hull registrars office and get a copy of the marriage certificate.

Hi David,

I found the marriage on   http://yorkshirebmd.org.uk/   it's part of the East Yorkshire Family History Society web site.

If you look just below the centre of the page you will see that you can click on either birth, marriages or deaths for the area covered by the society, it's not complete yet but gets regular updates.

The best way for you to get the marriage cert is to find the entry on the web site then if you click on the reference you can print off the correct form, just fill your details in , send it off and you should get it by return of post.

I hope you can undertstand all that
happy hunting
