Baptism help please - St Mary's Nottingham - COMPLETED WITH THANKS
« on: Wednesday 08 September 10 21:04 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I am struggling to locate the baptism of Isaac John Dicks (as an adult he didn't use Isaac and is always recorded as John Dicks). I think he is likely to have been baptised at St Mary's Church, Nottingham.

He was the son of William Dicks and Mary Hughes who married at St Mary's on 7 Jun 1824.  I have found the baptisms of his siblings but Isaac John's is hiding.

These are his (known) siblings:- Susannah bap 18 Nov 1824, Mary Susannah bap 20 Feb 1826, Emma bap 27 Oct 1827 and William Edwin bap 21 Mar 1830.

Isaac John's year of birth seems to be a bit fluid  ::).  In 1851 he was aged 18 which indicates he was born in 1833 but the army muster roll says he enlisted in Nottingham on 28 Aug 1854 aged 17 years and 11 months which would give his year of birth as 1836.  He was aged 8 on the 1841 census.

1841:-
Class: HO107; Piece 870; Book: 4; Civil Parish: St Mary; County: Nottinghamshire; Enumeration District: 7; Folio: 4; Page: 2; Line: 2; GSU roll: 474570.

1851:-
Class: HO107; Piece: 2132; Folio: 517; Page: 9; GSU roll: 87762.

He married Emma Skidmore in 1852 and died in India in 1874.

Any help appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi Kovel,

That must be it  ;D ;D ;D ;D.

The other baptisms have the York Street address although the father's occupation is different but it makes sense.  He was in the 32nd Reg Foot and then a pensioner on the other baptisms but it is quite possible he then took work as a labourer.

Thanks so much.
