Hi Angusg

To help with deciphering the death entry for Ann, you can contact SP, see here for guidance on how to do this (they have just changed things with the latest relaunch of the site) www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/content/help/index.aspx?r=1210

You can also post the relevant section on the deciphering board here on RC and people will try to work out the surname for Ann's mother with you www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/board,425.0.html

IGI have a submitted entry for Ann which shows her birth c. 1781 in Mey, Caithness. Not sure if this helps at this stage. There is a Mey showing in Canisbay, Caithness in 1841.

Might be Mey  ;) Could this be Ann in 1861 I wonder:

Ann Dunnet, 78, head b. Dunnet
Address: Mey, Canisbay

Added: I saw this http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/d/u/n/Barbara-Dunnett/WEBSITE-0001/UHP-1048.html but names for Ann Dundas parents don't fit with what you have found on your Ann's death entry  :-\

Hi Angus,
if I remember correctly the informant on Ann's death certificate was her grandson ? and I think the names he gave for her parents were a guess.
Ann Dundas was born/baptised 31 May 1783 in Greenland, Dunnet, her parents were James Dundas & Giles More (b 1743 Stanergill, Olrig named at bapt as Jellias Mores she died 1818 Dunnet).
Ann married John Dunnet 16 Jan 1802 Canisbay son of George Dunnet & Catherine Sinclair. He was born 3 Mar 1769 in Mey Canisbay & died abt 1846 West Mey .

I believe Strathullie was the name given to the glen running inland from Helmsdale. That's nowhere near Canisbay though.     Skoosh.

Thank you to all for responding.

The writting is clear... Uly in Parish of Canisby

Perhaps if we knew where her husband John Dunnet died that would assist.

Try this Angus, it has the aerial photo and map on the same page, work off the map and zoom in, type in Thurso and scan east.
