MBE Citation

My G.Grand father Thomas Brodigan was awarded the MBE for meritorious sea service in the merchant navy. Does anyone know how I can obtain the citation for this medal.

Nothing much in the London Gazette: http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/issues/35843/supplements/66 only his name.

I can confirm that Captain Thomas Brodigan was awarded the MBE(Civ) in the New Year's Honours List of 1943.
He was serving on mv "LOTTIE R"
"LOTTIE R" British coaster (Stone & Rolfe) built in 1937. She survived the war.

Thankyou for that information it is much appreciated. My brother is in possession of the medal and my mother who has passed away now, told me how she went to Buckingham Palace with her Grandfather when he received it. I am curious to know what he did to receive such an honour.

Hi Vienna !

How exciting that you are interested in how your GGrandfather won the MBE and the fact that he was Captain of an MV ~ The Lottie R fascinates me too as they were used for all kinds of tasks during WW2.

There is a record of his Medal listing at The National Archive and you can obtain it for an online fee of £3.50 here http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/details-result.asp?Edoc_Id=4458867&queryType=1&resultcount=1

Thanks Wendi. I'll send away for that and do some investigating into the LOTTE R.

A local newspaper might have written something about the award and the reason for it.
Have you tried your nearest archives?
