Hi again Anthony.

I have ancestors from Cranbrook but rather earlier.  They moved to Horsmonden in the late 1770s!

I am putting together a report on the descendants of Alexander Joy and Elizabeth Underdown which I will send to you and to Keith.  You are more closely related to each other than to me although I am connected to you through our common ancestors William Joy and Sarah Splayfoot.  I will do this later this week I hope.  In the meantime can you let me have your email address via the Personal message system please as the report will be too lengthy to post here.

Hi Folks , fascinating read and I realise I'm coming late to the party but  my grandfather was William Edwin JOY . My grandparent's family are from the Tonbridge/Sevenoaks area  by birth, marriage and death certificates and my grandmother was Amy JOY.

Does this ring any bells.. there is also an Isle of Wight connection for my dad as his birth  was registered at the RYDE  office. (Edwin Alfred Bruce JOY)

Hi Chris

Always good to hear of another JOY researcher.

What dates do you have for William Edwin Joy please?  Did he marry in 1920?  Do you know his parents' names?

I may have some more information on this family.

HI Barbara,

William Edwin Joy shows as my paternal grandfather on my father's birth certificate and his mother's death certificate)
Married to Amy (later Barnes but originally McKenzie) Born in 1880 , if her age of 70 at death in 1950 is accurate.  They had my father Edwin Alfred Bruce JOY on 19th Jan , 1921 (although registered his birth much later in 1936 at Ryde IOW at that time Amy's address was Sevenoaks)

Amy's Death Certificate shows a return to Tonbridge Wells

Still digging!

Chris

Have you found Amy on the 1939 register?  Was she a widow when she died?

Would be worth getting her marriage certificate to William Edwin I think.

Will let you know if I find anything.
