Hello I am descended from a Harriett Harvey who was born around 1814 in the Hoxne area. Interestingly I am pretty certain I have Jewish ancestry through my Harvey/Rayner line in the Hoxne area. I spotted elsewhere on the net that Ephraim Harvey may also have had Jewish ancestry. Do any of you know anything about this?

Regards,

Nicky

I realize this post dates back to 2010 however the 3 children baptized the same day would be after they were admitted to the workhouse. (Alfred, Harriet and Ephraim)
1851 Alfred and Ephraim are with older brother Charles and sister Sarah  in Norfolk.

to Eppingjewish   nicky,
I'll look into the Jewish connection. It is ages since I accessed my own info about him.
You say you are a descendant of a Harriet Harvey,do you know who her parents or siblings were?

to  amondg, I did not not know about the baptisms you mentioned. Where did you find the information? Are you descended from any of them?

Looking forward to reading your replies

Dear Jeanette,

Thank you for the reply. The Harriett/Hariot/Hariott Harvey I'm related to was living in the 1841 and later censuses with her husband Peter Rayner in Hoxne. I know they were married in 1831 in Hoxne and that she was born sometime around 1814 in either Hoxne or Debenham. I have so far not been able to trace her parents or siblings but because of vicinity and similar dates I believe her to be related to the Harvey's such as Ephraim. The other big connection was that I had been reading somewhere on the net that Ephraim Harvey and his son were supposed to be Jewish and my ancestral DNA suggests a fourth or fifth generation Jewish ancestor. I had eliminated my other lines and also my paternal great grandmother was stopped by many Jewish people in the 1930s because they believed her to be Jewish, I'm therefore certain this is my Jewish line as it doesn't fit with any of my other lines and this paternal great grandmother is the one descended from the Harvey line and my Rayner line.

Regards,

Nicky

Dear Trish,

Wow. Thank you very much. I had searched around in various databases and sites and hadn't been able to find any Harriet's who seemed to match. This one looks promising especially considering the year of birth fits and by the 1841 census she is under her married name Harriet Rayner.

Regards,

Nicky
