Havard emigration to NZ COMPLETED
« on: Sunday 19 September 10 15:59 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I have a number of Havard relatives who have emigrated to NZ, but am having difficulty with Elsie Hannah Havard, born Dec qtr 1892, daughter of Jonas & Eleanor Havard. She left Southampton aboard RMS Tainui on 20 Aug 1937, an unaccompanied domestic, bound for Wellington. The only other (unverified) information I have is that she died in NZ abt 1973.

If anyone is able to help me with anything concerning her life there, I would very much appreciate it.

Best wishes

Elsie Hannah is buried at Mangere Cemetery, Auckland. Unfortunately their records are not online yet, but some kind chatter might be able to take a photo for you.

Her death is registered at https://www.bdmhistoricalrecords.dia.govt.nz under surname Harvard,
1973/36470    Harvard     Elsie Hannah     15 October 1892
death was registered on 22 Dec 1973.

You can write to BDM and request correction of surname spelling - they are usually very helpful.

That was a good find John
Trouble with the data entry people thinking what it was an putting the R in surname
No wonder we have such problems with their narrow search options

Thank you John, that is wonderful.

Althea-I have come across this assumption before. My own grandfather who stayed in Wales, has Harvard on his headstone & I always have to bear it in mind when searching.

Following on from John's comment, if there is someone reading this who lives close enough to the cemetery to take a photo for me, it would be very much appreciated.

Best wishes to you both.
