COMPLETED:THANKS Woodland Cemetery, London, Ontario
« on: Tuesday 21 September 10 14:53 BST (UK) »
I have today discovered that one of my relatives died in Ontario Hospital London in 1935 and was buried in Woodland Cemetery. I have virtually no experience with the Canadian records and wondered if anyone knew of a resource where I might be able to find whether there was a headstone or possibly get a photograph.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi K44ENF,

I grew up in London not to far from Woodland.  You can contact the cemetery administrator and he/she should be able to help you  by providing where they are buried, which funeral home was used, and other info. Then you can contact the funeral home administrator for more info. You may be able to get the obits from the London Free Press newspaper archives at the London Public Library if you contact them.

I have not heard of the Ontario Hospital London, but it could be refering to a number of hospitals located in London. There are 3 general, 1 Veteran's and one phyc hospitals in the city.

Here are some links to these  places:

Hope this helps,

Hi JDC
My grand uncle Arthur Atkin was buried at Woodland Cemetery London. He died 9th Feb 1953 in Westminster Hospital London and the funeral home was Bennett Oakham. Although he was born in Wigan Lancs England he served in the Canadian Exp. Forces. Do you think he would have been buried in the veterans section or would that have been purely for Canadians.
Thanks for any help.
Denise.

Hi K44ENF,
If you google Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness - Ontario there are volunteers who will look up and photograph graves in the London cemeteries.  One man will also look up newspaper obits.

Hi Atkin,

I would suspect all of the veterans would be together at the cemetery (unless family wanted differently), wherevere they came from, particularly if they served in Canadain Forces. I find the cemetery and funernal home administrators very much willing to help us out :-)

Cheers, JDC

HI Karen,

You can also contact the middlsex co genelogy group in London as well. I know they are located of Western Road near the university, bu I don't have thier website addy handy. It should be easy to google them and I would think they would help you out as well. They have a bit of a resource library there too.
