Can any kind soul out there help me??
I've been trying to find the ancestors of my husband for ages now, and I'm stuck!

The surname is Wardle, but sometimes given/transcribed as Wardall/Wardell.
This makes it very hard to look-up!
The name I'm searching for is James Wardle, c1847 (supposedly born in Shropshire). I've found him on 1881 onwards, but would like to find him on earlier census reports as I need to know his parents and siblings.
This is what I have so far:
1881 - 41 Forge Row, Dawley, Shropshire
James Wardall, 34, coal miner, b Dawley, Shropshire
wife Eliza, 36, b Dawley - children Sarah, Mary A, Philip, John, James W - all born Dawley.
1891 - Chester Road, Ogley Hay, Staffordshire
James Wardall, 44, coal miner, b Dawley, Shropshire
wife Eliza, 47 - children Mary, Philip, John, William, Lydia E, Wesley (my husband's g-grandfather) - Wesley was the only one born in Shifnal - others stated as Dawley.
1901 - Ogley Square, Ogley Hay, Brownhills, Staffordshire
James Wardle, 54, coal hewer, b Holpark, Shropshire
wife Eliza, 56 - children Edward (31, b Darlaston, Staffs), William, Lillie, Wesley - all born Holpark.
I've been unable to pinpoint a definite birth record for James - possibly J/F/M qtr 1847, Madeley, where the surname is recorded as Wardle.
His marriage record to Eliza Withington is J/A/S qtr 1872 Wellington Sh. states surname as Wardall.
I have no idea where the son Edward comes from on 1901 as he doesn't show up on any other census!

Also, the change of 'place of birth' only adds to the confusion!
Can anyone please help me pinpoint James' whereabouts before 1881???
Thanks in advance for ANY help you can give!
