stevieuk - will have to check with my Dad as to the actual film he used. Most of the negatives I have so far are 70mm x just over 110mm, but I think he has some of other sizes. He's the expert, I'm the novice  :-[

The 70mm negatives could be 116/616 film, slightly bigger than 120 roll film.

An example of a camera that took 116/616 film is in the link below, I think 116/616 film went out of production in the early 70`s.

Edit... Both your scanner & your son`s have the same Optical scanning resolution of up to 1200 dpi, so there shouldn`t be too much difference in scanned results.

This is all really helpful, thanks also youngtug for the other links, and again to stevieuk - am phoning my Dad tomorrow (on his 82nd birthday) to get more info on the cameras & film he used.  My brother bought him a really good digital camera for his 80th, but I think it's so all-singing-dancing these days, and he really knew his stuff back when he had to do all the creative and clever stuff himself.

Has been a busy day today, so my son and I are looking forward to trying everything out tomorrow.  Am pretty excited, because if it works, there's some gems hidden away in my Dad's boxes!

Thanks again,

Mrs. T.

Hi everyone - great news; it worked!

Have, so far, a couple of lovely photos of the family from the 50's that we haven't seen at all before, and the quality is pretty good.

Had to use my son's scanner, as mine doesn't have an invert option. Found out we could have used Gimp if neither had invert (he already has that downloaded on his laptop, but we decided not to bother downloading to my PC as it doesn't have as much memory).

Anyway, I'm obviously delighted, and wanted to say a huge thank you to you all for your time and help.  I knew Rootschatters were the people to ask! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Thanks again,

Mrs. T.

P.S to Stevieuk -

They were 3 x 2 negatives from Ilford HP3 film (not contact prints from rolling film), using a Rolliecord (twin-lens) camera.
