Orchard Family. Trying to trace ancestors
« on: Saturday 25 September 10 12:57 BST (UK) »
Hi. I am trying to trace my ORCHARD family. My Grandfather was Leslie Orchard who married a Florence Jones in 1929. Leslie i think was born in Pontypridd and they had several children including XXXX. They lived in Topaz Street in early 60's.Leslie i believe died between 1965-1969. My parents divorced in late 60's and we were cut off from extended family. My father married XXX

Moderator comment: name of person who might still be living removed to protect their privacy and prevent identity theft.

Any help is most appreciated. Thankyou.

if this is the correct marriage reg -then they had middle names -which can help with research -especially when surnames are not uncommon

Leslie E Orchard
Florence A M Jones

Thornhill, Cresswell, Sisson, Harriman, Cripps, Eyre, Walter, Marson, Battison, Holmes, Bailey, Hardman, Fairhurst Noon-mainly in Derbys/Notts-but also Northampton, Oxford, Leics, Lancs-England

this looks like it could be your Grandmother's death reg

Florence Annie M Orchard
born 26 Mar 1910
death reg Jan 1987
age 76
S Glamorgan district
28 1617

this looks like her birth reg

Florence Annie M Jones
Jun qtr 1910
Newport M
11a 270

You need to purchase the marriage cert which will give father's names and occupations -or birth certs which will give parents names and mother's maiden names

You already have information re ordering from the GRO on another post.

If  you try and just make one posting re 1 subject -and preferably in the county of birth (which you are in correct section) -it makes it easier for you to follow the information given

Leslie Edward and Florence Annie M should appear on 1911 cens - we are not allowed (copyright iissues) to post details of this census - but you can search the index free.

It is a pay per view site to view the transcription or the image

if you view the image you can see your ancestors handwriting -so sometimes that is interesting (although the image is more credits than the transcription.

Once you have that information we can help you look up census information 1841-1901

There is FreeBMD -for birth marriages death registrations - it is not yet complete but more is being transcribed by volunteers all the time

You can view 1881 census free at www.familysearch.org (and other things)

RootsChatters have a wealth of information between them too

I'll have a look to see if I can find anything further

with a little help from the free index on the 1911, this looks to be the marriage of the parents of Leslie E Orchard born 1907

John Edward Orchard dec qtr 1901 vol 11a pg 689 Cardiff with Stella Kate Davies on the same page

Bearing in mind that he may or may not be 'yours'.

If you go to FreeBMD

Click on births

put surname Orchard
mothers maiden name Jones
district Cardiff
dates 1929 to 1936

you should find 6 birth regs -which are most probably the children of leslie Edward Orchard and Florence Annie M Jones . I cannot post names as they may still be living

I think this is his death reg

and this is death reg of son

I have some information on the other children - which I will PM if you require it -as they may still be living
