I'm so sorry and can't understand why I posted that you lived in Canada and not New Zealand! I must have been having a very senior moment!

I haven't been researching my family tree for ages so have forgotten a lot about it but I have just looked at my chart and find that I have James Sloane 1786- 1858 (My GGG Grandfather) coming from Urr, Kirkcudbrightshire. His parents were Nathan Sloane and Janet Murdock 1762 (notice the spelling).
I also have Phyllis Tait 1781-1868 m James Sloane. They had a grocers shop in Colvend. Her parents were John Tait and Jannet Murdock 1761
Strange that man and wife both had a mother called Janet Murdock.
I'm not sure but I think I obtained this info from gravestones at Kippford.

Hello Shirley,
No problems with the country I live in. I did not know that James and Phillis Sloan had a grocers store so thank you for that.
I do have those parents listed for each of them but what I want is the proof. Whered id you get the information from?

Hello Matt,
Thank you for the link for the Colvend Churchyard. I went to the churchyard in 2010 and saw the inscription but it does not tell me who the parents of James and Phillis were.

Are you able to give me any more information regarding this.

James Sloane death 1858 Colvend Kirkcudbright , born c1780

The death certificates should contain the names of the parents
The names supplied will only be as good as the knowledge of the person signing the certificate
Errors do occur

Thank you for comment. I have looked up the deaths for both James and Phillis Sloan. Can't believe I haven't done it earlier.

James' parents are Nathan Sloane and Janet McMorrin  spelling might not be right as hard to read

Phillis' parents are John Tait and Janet Murdoch

Very interesting article Tiphaine. However, I am a descendant of John Sloan, Ann Crosbie Sloan's brother. I am trying to establish the connection between Samuel Crosbie and the Sloans.
John Sloan lived from 1822-1849. He perished at sea and left a wife, Elizabeth Porter and son, John who was only two years of age when his father was killed.
