Hi Colinm

As far as I know no burial records for the Graveyard are available. I did hear that they might be in private hands but not sure what has become them. It could be like another local 'Old Graveyard ' where there are only records of who owns the graves and not who was buried in them.

I have pictures of every headstone, which I took last year, so I will have a look on the off chance for you.

What year might your Alexander have been buried?

Hi Colin,

Sorry for the delay in replying - your reply was unexpectedly moved to another part of the site and I have had quite a bit of difficulty in finding it again.

The burial records for Rashee are sadly now in private hands, but I have never managed to locate them.

There are no Alexander Moores recorded on the surviving headstones at Rashee; only the following Moores are recorded (on two separate headstones):

‘Here lieth The Body of/ Robert Moore Who Departed/
This life the 23rd of May/ 1816: Aged 66 Years.’

‘IN/ MEMORY/ OF/ JAMES MOORE, RASHEE/ WHO DIED 3RD NOV
1864/ AGED 71 YEARS/ ALSO HIS WIFE MARY BARKLIE/ WHO
DIED 5TH NOV 1889/ AGED 88 YEARS/ ALSO THEIR CHILDREN/
MARGARET DIED 30TH SEPT 1858/ AGED 33 YEARS/ JANE DIED
1ST SEPT 1854/ AGED 25 YEARS.’

Thanks PRich,
My Alex died at Rashee in 1880 but I have never found a headstone for him in any of the local Rashee, Ballyeaston, Ballyclare, Doagh or Kilbride graveyards.  The family were quite poor so it's unlikely he had one erected.

I know this is an old thread, but I happened to notice that JWaugh mentioned having photos of all the remaining headstones at Rashee old burying ground and someone else was offering to do look-ups.  I have been told that my great-great-grandmother's brother, Thomas Lawther (c1861-1936) was buried at Rashee burying ground (my source didn't specify old or new) and I wondered if there were any Lawther headstones.  I know 1936 is quite a late date, but my Lawther family had moved to Belfast c1880 and Thomas still came back home to be buried, so I thought I'd ask in case there was a whole tribe of Lawthers buried there.

Hi

I have looked the photos I have and don't see any Lawther's. It is possible that he was buried in the New Rashee.

If you contact Newtownabbey Borough Council and email them, thy can look up the grave records for Thomas.

If you get a grave number PM me the details and I will see if there is a headstone.

Hello,

I am interested in any burial information for Agnews and Kerrs in the Old Rashee graveyard.

Thank you for your help.
