Lost place in Dorset
« on: Sunday 26 September 10 17:20 BST (UK) »
I had an aunt who was born in November 1929 in PAFE Dorset. On the bmd it gives the district as Dorchester. Try as I might, I cannot find PAFE. Does anyone know of it? Its probably a village or I may have spelt it wrong. Any help appreciated. Her name was Vera M. Evans. Daughter of Evan L. and Annie Mary (nee Veasey)

You might get inspiration from the other 4 letter villages on the Dorset OPC site, One that looks possible to me is Wyke (Regis) which is near Weymouth, and not far from Dorchester.

Hi,

If you use the FreeBMD site you can click on the Dorchester registration, follow the instructions and a window will open listing all the towns/villages in the Dorchester district.

There's nothing like Pafe listed but one of the names might ring a bell.

Just done that, and didn't find it too easy! Could the place be one of the Frome entries?

Hi

Might be easier if Chris has a copy of the birth cert and could put the bit about PAFE on here so we can all see it ;)

No I don't have her birth certificate. She once told me she was born in Pafe and I put that on the tree. (as you do, after all she should know where she was born) But I have just started to get more into the families tree and decided to look it up - but it doesn't exist!! Now I'm inclined to believe she lived in Corfe. Its the nearest sounding place and until I see a birth certificate I cannot say for sure.
Thanks for the suggestions. Will let you know if I find out.

Hi,

I wonder if Pafe was the name of the house/farm where she was born;  somewhere in the Dorchester registration district?   :-\

Corfe is in a different registration district.

As Ricky suggested, a copy of the birth certificate will, hopefully, solve the mystery!
