Whiston colliery fire 1806
« on: Sunday 03 October 10 22:06 BST (UK) »
Hi All

Does anyone have or know where i can look to find out about the Whiston (Lancashire)Colliery fire in 1806. I have discovered the burial record for Henry Lawrenson in 1806 and it says he died in a colliery fire at Whiston.

Any help is very much appreciated.

Thankyou in advance

Jemma

If you go to  The Coal Mining History Resource Centre web site, there is a section on the home page, Accidents/Disasters, on this page scroll down to the report section were you will see a list of pdf files in year order, click on 1800-19 ,scroll down the list and you will find a mention of the incident,it is listed as St Helens, you will see your relatives name mentioned.

Hope this helps

Hi Jemma
My 5th great grandfather Samuel Manchester lost three brothers William, Thomas and James in that colliery fire.  I have tried to find a grave for them but St Marys Prescot graveyard is in such a bad state I could not find it
