Hi portholemike  :)

I had a look in the Kinson baptisms on the Dorset Online Parish Clerk site (http://www.opcdorset.org/KinsonFiles/KinsonBaps.htm) but couldn't see any PENFOLDs.

Where did you get your ggggrandfather's birth information from?

Cheers
Prue

Hi,

I wonder if his birthplace was Kingston (near Corfe Castle) or Kington Magna and not Kinson?   :-\

hi pruem,  it was 1861 shirley south stoneham, hants [under the name penford] aged 78,born kingston, dorset, brush maker, and his wife charlotte[nee]palmer, age 79 born lancs 1782. i believe kingston is the old name for kinson.

hi nanny jan, thanks for your reply, loking at other descendants of his they all seemed to have lived around dorset/hants, his son also called john married harriet james at pimperne, 2nd aug 1831,which is near kinson. regards portholemike

I was investigating a  family rumour about a place called Kingston- it turned out that my folks lived at Kingston near Hazlebury Bryan.
As you mentioned Pimperne, would it be worth trying Winterborne Kingston, Kingston Lacey or even Tarrant Keyneston, as these are all nearer to Pimperne. There was also a Kingston Farm near Kingston Maurward on the way to Dorchester.
Fred :)

I went looking for John and Charlotte in 1851 (thinking it might help confirm the birthplace) but didn't find them, although I noticed that in 1861 they were living in a caravan, so perhaps if they were travellers they managed to 'skip' the census that year.
