Glasgow marriage
« on: Friday 08 October 10 06:47 BST (UK) »
Looking to confirm a marriage between William Goode and Marion Shaw, married 5 June 1882 Glasgow according to the NZ birth certificate for one of their children Andrew Falconer Goode born 1897, Green Island NZ.
I have tracked 7 children born in NZ between 1884 and 1897, so presume that they emigrated to NZ between 1882 and 1884.
Cant find exact date of emigration but still searching.
Name varies in NZ from Goode to just Good so makes for an interesting search.
William was 47 and Marion 44 on the birth cert of 1897.

Sorry 2shea. no marriage William Goode to Marion Shaw 1882 Glasgow. All Scottish births, deaths and marriages on http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/. It's a pay-to-view actual records, but you can get quite a long way searching before you get to the paying bit.
I tried quite a lot of permutations of names but no luck.
No William Good (e) married 1880-1882 Glasgow. 18 William Goods married 1875- 1882 in Scotland but can't find their spouses unless you pay (none of them Marion or Shaw).
Back to the drawing board!

Thanks for that,
I had trolled through Scotlands people and Beta family search with no joy, but thought someone with a fresh eye might have spotted something.
There is no Glasgow in NZ,  birth cert said, Scotland . It was a very definate date, 5 June but of course they may not have married at all and this was just a convenient date to put down. Marion has birthplace as Motherwell, Scotland.
Will have a look through the 1881 census and see either parents are there, of course unmarried at that stage if the 1882 date is to be believed.

Thanks again

Had you considered Mary Ann rather than Marian, I say that because my gt grandmother changed from Mary Ann to Marian when she came over from Ireland.  There's also the possibility that Shaw was a previous married name therefore not her maiden name?

There are three marriages for William Goode to a Mary Ann between 1875 and 1885 in the whole of Scotland on Scotlands People that might be worth looking at.
Ireland, Co Antrim: Kerr; Hollinger; Forsythe; Moore
Ireland, Co Louth: Carson; Leslie
Ireland, Co Kerry: Ferris
Scotland, Perthshire/Glasgow:  Stewart
England, Devon/Cornwall: Ferris, Gasser/Jasser/Jesser, Norman

Will try Mary Ann, the Scots accent was hard to understand sometimes and willing to try anything.

Cheers

William was a miner on the 1897 birth certificate and when in NZ worked at the Kaitangita mine in Southland.  Two of his sons were also miners.
