Help with handheld scanner, please
« on: Tuesday 12 October 10 11:20 BST (UK) »
I have just bought one of these

http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=390393&C=Froogle&U=390393&T=Module

for scanning photographs in old family albums.

I don't seem to be able to find the driver on the accompanying disc - it describes itself as "ScreenshotReader".
I use a Mac.  The literature says that it's compatible with Macs.

Can anyone help?

Thank you.

The website says it scans to an SD card. So, if your MAC supports SD cards, you should be able to read the scans directly from the card. It also appears to have a USB connection, so again, plugging it into your PC, it should appear like an additional drive, the same as if you pluggen in a USB  memoty stick. I'm not actually a MAC user though, so I'm probably wrong  ;D ;D

I had thought it would work using the USB - but on a closer examination of the 'manual' (a slip of paper!) it seems that you need the SD card regardless of using the USB or not.

So have ordered one, and will give it another go.

It seems to work like a digital camera, although  a digital camera does have a small internal memory but you usually have to buy a memory card.

I presume the USB cable is only used to transfer images from the the scanner to the computer?  In theory you could also put the SD card into a card reader and transfer images that way as well.
