Hi,
I am also trying to locate the graves of my Great Grandmother's family. Someone very kindly found them for me at the archives and said they were buried at the General Cemetery.
I emailed Nottingham cemeteries at Wilford Hill and they gave me the details of the archives as they said they couldn't help.
Archives said:
"We also hold the following records for the General Cemetery:
•Surname indexes for Anglican burials 1837-1992 and Dissenters' burials 1856-1978
•Grave number registers for Anglican and Dissenter's graves
•Interment certificates for Anglican burials 1837-1981 and Dissenters' 1856-1981"
Will these records definitely contain my family's plots? I don't live near Nottingham so I'd hate it to be a wasted journey!
These are in one plot:
Ada Elliott buried aged 1 year 16/11/1896
Frances George Elliott aged 1 year buried 6/5/1899
David Lane aged 68yrs died 2 Sept 1896 buried 4 Sept 1896
George Lane aged 64yrs died 17 Sept 1895 buried 21 Sept 1895
Ann Lane aged 65yrs a spinster died 9 Jan 1900 buried 12 Jan 1900
And in another:
Florence Mary Elliott 6 Dec 1888 aged 8 mths buried 8 Dec 1888
Mary Elliott aged 8 months buried 19/5/1891
Are the burials too old to guarantee finding a record of the plot numbers? I would like to visit the plots if possible because the amount of children my GGGrandmother lost at such young ages is heartbreaking!
