Hi,
I am also trying to locate the graves of my Great Grandmother's family. Someone very kindly found them for me at the archives and said they were buried at the General Cemetery.
I emailed Nottingham cemeteries at Wilford Hill and they gave me the details of the archives as they said they couldn't help.
Archives said:
"We also hold the following records for the General Cemetery:

•Surname indexes for Anglican burials 1837-1992 and Dissenters' burials 1856-1978
•Grave number registers for Anglican and Dissenter's graves
•Interment certificates for Anglican burials 1837-1981 and Dissenters' 1856-1981"

Will these records definitely contain my family's plots? I don't live near Nottingham so I'd hate it to be a wasted journey!

These are in one plot:
Ada Elliott buried aged 1 year 16/11/1896
Frances George Elliott aged 1 year buried 6/5/1899
David Lane aged 68yrs died 2 Sept 1896 buried 4 Sept 1896
George Lane aged 64yrs died 17 Sept 1895 buried 21 Sept 1895
Ann Lane aged 65yrs a spinster died 9 Jan 1900 buried 12 Jan 1900

And in another:
Florence Mary Elliott 6 Dec 1888 aged 8 mths buried 8 Dec 1888
Mary Elliott aged 8 months buried 19/5/1891

Are the burials too old to guarantee finding a record of the plot numbers? I would like to visit the plots if possible because the amount of children my GGGrandmother lost at such young ages is heartbreaking!

Hi Burto,

I'm the person who told you about the graves. The info that Nottingham Archives gave you are just the burial records where I got the details from, they do have great big maps of the Cemetery with the graves so I'll try and have a look for you.
Since Wilford Hill took over the keeping of the Cemeteries they aren't very good at helping people when the records were at Bulwell cemetery  they would go and look for the graves for you and send you a map with them on they would even meet you at the cemetery and take you to the plot, I did this on a number of times but since they moved to Wilford Hill they don't what to help.
They only other thing you can do is go to the cemetery and see if there is a groundsman around who might be willing to help and find the graves as long as you have the grave numbers.  As there is not a head stone it will be hard to locate the exact  spot.

Hi Nottsgirl,
You are a star. I must admit I got very confused when I emailed Wilford I think because I wasn't sure how I would find a grave number, especially as a number wasn't included in the burial entries that you kindly looked up for me. Are the maps labelled with names?

Hi Burto,

Sorry did I not give you the grave numbers (must have been having a senior moment), I'll check my notes to see if I noted them down if not it wont take me long to go back to the records to get them. The maps just have grave numbers on them but they a very big and a bit like a jiggle puzzle to put them together but I've looked at them before so know how to do it.

May not be till next week if that's OK.
