Does anyone use Canon Printer (Pixma ip2600)
« on: Thursday 14 October 10 16:39 BST (UK) »
Hi All,
I have not long had this printer it came with the two free cartridges low capacity.
Canon cartridges are very expensive so I have purchased compatible ones from a reputable supplier.
These are 24ml opposed to Canon's 12ml and are good value for money, trouble is the ink details status box showing the quantity say both are empty, and there is two new cartridges installed, would anybody know why the printer is not recognising the cartridges.
Regards,
Peter.

The micro chip/s are not seeing the ink/s?
(Does the packaging for the ink refer to your model of printer)
I once bought a pack of ink and although the cartridge ref matched my printer, the microchip had not been updated for my particular model of printer.
You might have to send for replacement as some inks don't work with your printer.

Hello Brian,
Thanks for your response, the inks are compatible with printer, it's just that there is no indication of how much ink left, although they are full at the moment, it's not recognising the ink level.
Regards,
Peter. P.S Can use the printer and it prints OK.

 Hi Peter,
It's because the manufacturer wants you to buy their

ink cartridges. That is why they sell printers cheaply. The Profits

are in selling the ink catridges. I bought cheap compatibles and

switched the chip from the empty to the new. The printer told me that the

new cartridge was empty. As I don't do a lot of printing nowadays

it doesn,t worry me. I just manually check occaisionally or when the

print output deteriorates. I imformed my supplier of some compatible cartridges

which are  already chipped. These are dearer than the unchipped ones but are accepted

by the printer as originals. They now stock them. Can you tell me me the part numbers?

     Tomkin.

Interesting Tomkin, I too use a Canon but mine is Pixma 210, same thing about price of cartridges so I now use compatibles and have the same problem about "empty" cartridges, I just wait until either the printer stops working which tells me black has run out, or colours very odd which means colour is on its way. By the way, I have found that when the notification comes that your cartridge is empty it lasts for a very long time before it needs changineg, another method to maximise profit, this time through waste of resources.

Hello tomkin,
Thank you for coming back, they are CL-41 colour 12ml and PG-40 black 12ml.
The compatibles are from http://www.advantage-online.co.uk/ and I use their 24ml ones much better value, and the quality is acceptable.

Peter.

These are the same cartridges used by the Pixma 210.

My printer is a Canon Pixma MP140 and I had exactly the same problem, I even returned the cartridges for a replacement which still showed empty. I rang the maker and was told to ignore the empty warning and press the reset button for 5 secs. That sorted it.

 Hi Peter,

The ones that you have quoted seem to be good value.

My cartridges are individual and are £2-99 each as opposed to Advantages

of £5-99 each. The Printer Manufacturers often quote that using compatibles

invalidates the warranty. According to EU law this is rubbish! As I said huge profits

   in selling Ink cartridges.

     Happy Printing,

     Tomkin ;D ;D
