Hi Steve...Hi Larkspur...

I hope Steve manages to get access..... amazing what you might find.

It looks like the Google Books that Eric mentioned seems to give more info than the newspapers, such as; http://www.rootschat.com/links/0a3u/

There are a few mentions of Richard Hannam in the newspapers

The Newcastle Courant etc , Saturday, March 15, 1828

The Sheffield Independent, and Yorkshire and Derbyshire Advertiser , Saturday, January 20, 1838 - death Richard Hannam snr

The Leeds Mercury (Leeds, England), Saturday, March 16, 1839 = Partnership dissolved - Hannam & Wall

The Sheffield & Rotherham Independent , Saturday, January 19, 1856 = death Richard Hannam jnr

Nottinghamshire Guardian (London, England), Thursday, August 06, 1857
marriage of Charlotte Anne the eldest surviving  dau of the late Richard HANNAM to George Robert Foster Haddelsey and at the same time Agnes Dennison the youngest dau of the late Richard HANNAM to John Henry Hutchinson

Hi Dizzy
Thanks for all the help, I've found the problem I live in Scarborough which is in N Yorks and their libraries do not appear to subscribe to Infotrac so I shall have to find another way but at least I know what the problem is. Bye the way the Sheffield and Notts Hannams are mine,

Thanks again

Hi Steve....

That's sad... :'(

If you don't come up with a way around it pm me and I will try and send you some of the newsclips.

I expect the Caister Hannam's are yours too....

The Morning Chronicle , Saturday, December 25, 1852  - death of Frances Mary Hannam, dau of Richard Hannam & granddaughter of the late Charles Fitzwilliam Hannam of Clixby Manor

I see there is a book for sale on ebay for the lost houses in Lincolnshire in which Clixby Manor gets a mention

If part of the scandal and the ensuing bankruptcy did involve elections, then the election took place in 1832. Pre reform it was the practise for Parliament to be dissolved on the death of the sovereign, and a new one elected by those few who had the vote. George IV died in 1832, and was succeeded by his brother, who became William IV.

regarding the newspapers, the Leeds Mercury has been mentioned; however, I found a reference to a highway robbery carried out by my great grandfather's brother in the Gainsborough area in 1832 to have been reported in the Stamford Mercury.

Brianz,

Just go to Lancashire Libraries online and join them. You don't have to live in Lancashire to join the library but you do have give them your name and address so they can send you a library card. Then you can go to their website and using your library card number gain access to around 72 newspapers and also the Times Digiatal online, 1785  to 1985.
