HELP Please, I can't find Granddad's birth Cert.

Hi there,

I have been searching for my grandfather's birth certificate for some time and have had no luck with the English birth registers.

He is James Robert SAWYER.

The only records I have for him are his marriage cert. to Louisa Adelaide BLAKE, and the birth cert. for his son (my father) James Robert SAWYER.

from the Marriage Certificate:
James and Louisa were married at the Register Office, District of Essex South Western, County of Essex on July 31st 1937.
Both were 21 years of age. (so he was born c.1916)
James was a Motor Lorry Driver, living at 81 Arkley Road, Walthamstow.
His father's name was James Robert Weidon SAWYER, his mother may have been Mary NOCKLES.
I have James and Mary's marriage cert. (married March 1st 1896) it would mean that Mary was 48 when James was born (not impossible but unlikley) I don't know of any other children from this marriage and I don't know if Mary died and James remarried before my Granddad was born.

from the Birth Certificate:
James Robert SAWYER b. August 10th 1938, 102 City Road.
Father James Robert SAWYER, Occupation of father: Furniture Motor Lorry Driver of 10 Arkley Crescent Walthamstow, Mother L. A. Sawyer.

I have no other information on him except that James and Louisa separated when their son, James was very young. I don't think they were divorced and they had no other children.

I wonder if anyone can help me find his birth or perhaps christening record.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

 Hi Hilary only just noticed you were still online so i will post these now incase you want to have a quick look before going off.

                The only two poss. i found were....


            James w Sawyer married Lambeth Jan feb mar 1911

             Lambeth 1d 456

            and then

            James Sawyer born Lambeth Apr may june 1917 1d 417
            mother Raeburn

           May not be anything at all but you never know!!!!!
