Hi William

No sorry I don't have any more info on the parents but I see from the message above by Lodger that a George Wright died 1862 which could have been Richards father.
He also has recorded the death of Richard, and the daughter Mary  I mentioned (mother of William MCkenzie)  and verifys the parents...it looks as if Mary died in childbirth. Also sometimes the registrars hear the name differently and spell it so....madill and mcGill etc
Are you descended from Richard or related in another way? ... through the Wrights or McCallums ?
I am only connected as Richard and Anns daughter Rachel married my grandfathers cousin John.

If I can help in any otherway don't hesitate to ask...

regards
Marilyn

I thought you must have been a descendant. I didn't receive the other message till today, it doesn't appear on the actual list here but its good to know.
I have searched for the death of Ann Wright nee McCallum on Scotlands People...if you are doing another search for her here are a few that you don't need to search ...1903 Bridgeton, 1904 Tradeston, 1912 Bellshill, 1914 Cambusnethan..not  her parents.
I have also searched under McCallum and Agnes Wright/McCallum as the name is interchangeable apparently but Scotlands P have changed their format and I don't seem to be able to find them in my saved searches which you could before.
I also have copies of two or three census with Ann as a widow etc but can't send you them on here unfortunatELY
Is there anything else I cna help with

I am the great great granddaughter of William Alexander McKenzie, the illegitimate son of Mary Wright.  I am very interested in copies of any documents you may have if you're willing to share.

Thank you in advance,

Amanda

Trying to verify parents what i have is Richards parents George Wright and Mary McDill on marriage document but on family search Richards mother is Agnes Ferguson ??.

Agnes Ferguson was the wife of George Wright, he was the elder brother of Richard Wright who was married to Ann McCallum.
Both brothers, according to their statements given to the Inspector(s) of Poor in Cambusnethan parish, were born in County Monaghan, Ireland.
Their parents are consistently given as George Wright and Mary McDill, they were, according to their sons poor relief claims, both dead by 1863.

There are pages of information about this family in the Poor Relief Claims for Cambusnethan and Dalziel parishes, all on Ancestry under "North Lanarkshire, Scotland, Poor Law Applications and Registers, 1849-1917".

Ann McCallum made claims up until 1908 when she was approximately 80 years old. She was living with her grandson (she said he was her nephew) William McKenzie, at Baillie's Square, Motherwell, parish of Dalziel. At that time she said she had son James aged 44. Son William aged 42. Daughter Ann aged 39. Daughter Rachel aged 37 and daughter Agnes aged 35.
James was living with his wife and 6 children in the village of Bothwellhaugh near to Hamilton and Motherwell.
Ann was married to Elijah Belcher, they had 7 children and lived in Wishaw.
William was unmarried and lived in the U.S.A.
Rachel was divorced, had 4 children 2 of whom were still dependant and they lived in Detroit, U.S.A.
Agnes was married to Archibald Archibald (sic) with no children and lived in Ohio, U.S.A.

In her 1908 claim, Ann gives a list of residences and claims she lived in Ohio for 4 years, returning around 1906 approximately.

William McKenzie also claimed, just a week or 2 after Ann, on June 30th 1908 but there is no mention of her in his claim. He is with his wife Catherine Kyle and 6 children (5 daughters & 1 son) he states he was born in Stewarton Street, Wishaw, son of Donald McKenzie, a labourer and Mary Wright, who are both dead at the time of his claim.
William makes another claim, dated August 3rd 1910. After the usual details of him and his family it states "August 27th 1910 Now gone to Canada, wife and children still here".
It doesn't say if they ever followed him.

What we have to remember is, deaths are recorded by others, whether family descendants or other & it's very often the case names are slightly off i.e. sound-alike.

In order to be more sure, it's always best to check the actual documents, confirm named relation of deceased (if relationship is given) & addresses.

It's very likely McGin(n) was an error for Madill?

The Rachel you mention in Detroit was married to John Robertson (my grandfathers Uncle) who died inwe believe in a mine at Greensburg,Westmoreland in Pennsylvania. I haven't been able to get his death cert but someone in PA might be able to from the registrar. It would be helpful to find the proof. We believe she came to Detroit, maybe via Ohio and remarried Adrian Van Loo several years her junior. He remarried after she died in 1922.
From earlier Census ' Rachel and John had Richard m twice no family, Annie married Pierce Parsons and remarried Oscar Cronk, known as Anna in later life, Rachel Helen, known as Helen in later years  she married and divorced Nelson Hoffman, Archibald (named after Johns father) died in infancy
Elizabeth Shirley married Keith Littel and rem Edward Wright ..I have the names of most of their family and was in contact with some of the Littel descendants.

Here’s the info I received in the 90’s from my aunt Rachel (grand daughter of William McKenzie and Catherine Kyle)

“My grandfather was born an illegitimate child, his grandmother (Ann McCallum Wright) from what I understand locked his mother (Mary Wright) up in a room when she found out she was pregnant. Mary died in childbirth and his father, who was a sailor, then sailed for Canada. My grandfather was given his fathers name.

My grandfather was raised by his grandmother, Annie McCallum Wright who had six children besides Mary: William, James, Thomas, Annie, Rachel, and Agnes. These were my grandfathers aunts and uncles with whom he was raised”

“My grandfather came to the US twice (in 1910 by himself) was because of his health; the doctor recommended it as a change of climate (it was a lung disorder - no doubt from coal dust). He stayed there seven months and then returned. It was thirteen years before he returned in 1923 - the same year my grandmother (Catherine Kyle) and their seven children came - but not all at the same time.  All seven of my grandparents’ children were born in Motherwell, Scotland. From the oldest down - Annie, Helen, Mary, William, Rachel, Agnes, and Catherine.”

Here’s where it gets tricky, and a little convoluted, but it relates to the posts above…

“My aunt Mary met (in America) and fell in love with a man (Adrian VanLoo) from Holland. He was a quite a bit older than aunt Mary and was married to my grandfather’s aunt Rachel (Who was raised with my grandfather, as his sister). Rachel and Adrian were divorced and my aunt Mary and he married. They had five boys: Jack, William, Roxy, Adrian Junior, and Wiley. Adrian Junior died of rheumatic fever when he was 10 years old. Laater they had another son James. Adrian passed away many years ago and aunt Mary passed away, I believe in the early 1990s.”

William was known by all of his grandchildren as “Granda” and I believe he lived with his daughter Helen (my great grandmother) until his death in 1965.

There’s more about William and Catherine’s descendants, but I’ll stop here unless there’s interest.
