Hi Bill and Harvo.  Thanks for all the information.  The section of Leek Road I wanted some history on is the row of terraces opposite All Saints with Franklyn Street one side and Hazelhurst the other.  I used to live there and visit the area sometimes so I know it quite well.  However, no one seems to know whether that section of Leek Road was called something else.  It doesn't show up anything when I search records on Leek Road.

Thank and hope your wife is ok now.

Megan

Hi there, I just came across this thread and think I may be able to help a little. I now live in the house which was until approx 4 years ago, still a corner shop as well as a domestic residence. The property was numbered 102 on the 1901 and 1911 census, and the property numbered as 55 also was subject to the same alcohol restriction. The original owners of the shop in the early 1900's was a family by the name of Warrington. I too am most interested to find out as much as possible about the house/area. Please feel free to message me if you want to talk further.

Hi Megan

In the mid 1800's The area around Joiners Square and towards Shelton was I believe called Mousecroft, the area around Joiners Square and towards Abbey Hulton was and still is referred to as Eastwood. Hope this helps.

Hi MrBee, yes that would make sense, seeing as the ward as far as the council is concerned is still known as the Eastwood ward, and other names like Eastwood Road leading down to Hazelhurst Street. I am keen to see any photographs that may exsist of that area, older the better, but all the ones I have found in books etc seem to centre on the potbanks etc instead of Leek Rd itself
