Hello my name is Lauren. My grandmothers name is originally Yvonne Aroma Phelps. I have always been interested in the history of my family so I have asked her questions before and it sounds as though I may possibly be related to this Phelps family.

My grandmother lived in Gloucester where she married into the name Dyer and gave birth to my mother. My grandmother told me that she had family that moved to Canada, but I do not know more than that.

My grandmother was the only one to move to America and I do know she came from a very large family. I do believe she has some sisters still alive over in England.

I will try to find out my grandmothers parents names as I would love to learn if we are tied together.

Also, my grandmother was born September 1, 1939 and believe she is among the oldest of the siblings.

Hello Lauren
I  think family history is a great hobby-- if at times frustrating. Roots chat members  have been amazing in my seraches. Alas I have not taken my Phelps extended tree as far forward as 1939 so not sure if there is a link. More information would be useful.  Are you a member of Ancestry and if so, have you found any trees that may give more clues.
I wish you luck in your serach and if i can help I will. Alas Phelps is quite a common name in Gloucestershire.
All the best.

If you use the website:

freebmd.org.uk

https://www.freebmd.org.uk

And search for Birth: of

Yvonne A PHELPS - 1939, Gloucestershire

The Mother's maiden name is PARSONS.

There 9 PHELPS birth's mother's maiden name PARSONS in Gloucester in 1933 and then Gloucester C from 1939 -

? as the first child was name Harry J PHELPS - it could be Harry PHELPS married Millicent A PARSONS, Sept Qtr 1931 in Gloucester.

You will also find Yvonne's marriage in 1959 on the above website.

Capetown,

I just spoke with my grandmother today and yes, you are spot on! Her mother was Millicent Aroma Parsons. It was her father who actually went to Canada.

As far as what she knows about her father, Harry Phelps, she said he was an orphan and did not know anything about his family history.

I would love to take the ancestry test to find out if I can find out more! I wonder if one can find out more about orphanages during that time.

Family appear on the 1939 register index. It includes Grandmother, which I don't understand if still living.

http://search.findmypast.co.uk/search-world-records/1939-register

Gives Harry DOB as 1912

PHELPS HARRY       -     No Mmn listed so likely illegitimate

Obtaining his birth cert should confirm name of mother.

Born 1939 would make grandmother 78 which isn't that unusual these days.
