John Dyneley Prince
« on: Tuesday 19 October 10 02:54 BST (UK) »
I came across a request for information about this John Dyneley Prince of Lowell Mass on Google.  He is my several times over great grandfather and I actually know quite a bit about the family. The request was posted in '07 so perhaps who ever was searching for information knows all they want to know about him at this point...  If not I'd be happy to tell them all I know.

Many thanks, aghadowey for spotting this and letting me know.

E. Hope Doolin, welcome to Rootschat, and thank you for your kind offer.

I have been researching the Dyneley family for some time, and have found that wherever the name Dyneley crops up there is usually a connection with those I already know about.   JDP's family is certainly an interesting one, and I would love to know more.  Do you know much about the family before they emigrated?  I hope that there will be something I can tell you about.

When you have posted 3 or more times on Rootschat, we can exchange personal messages:

or you can just post on this thread if you prefer.

Kind regards, Galium

I'm having such trouble submitting this e-mail!   Let's hope it's third time lucky.  Gallium, I know something about the Prince connections in England, but not much.   I know quite a bit more about the Lowell Princes, mostly anecdotal although I do have a few letters, etc.  I've always been interested in learning where the Dyneley name came from - I should have given it to one of my children in view of how successful the Dyneley Princes appear to have been over here....have you come across Dyneley Beam yet?
Thank you aghadowey for alerting Gallium.
Thanks, E. Hope Doolin

Hi, sorry I haven't been able to reply for a while.

There's some interesting information on the internet about the Lowell Prince family being friendly with James McNeill Whistler's family, and also about  the John Dyneley Prince who was diplomat and talented linguist.  His nephew Jacob Dyneley Beam pops up a few times when searching for Dyneleys, but I only know whatever is available online about him.

The first John Dyneley Prince's parents were Benjamin Prince, and Mary Dyneley who came from an old Yorkshire family.   Mary's brother John, being unmarried and childless left a most informative will which mentions all his nephews and nieces.

Hope to hear from you again.
Galium.

The Princes lived next door to the Whistlers in Lowell and were v. good friends. For some reason my internet connection keeps turning itself off so I hope to get this reply to you before it does it again. Dyneley Beam became US ambassador to Russia and subsequently director of Radio Free Europe...you probably know this?  I'd be very interested in the names in John D's will.  Did you say we could e-mail after a few postings?    I'm going to sign off while the connection is still working E. I am currently searching for correspondence from John Dyneley Prince concerning his academic endeavors. Unfortunately, I have found nothing in Baltimore, Leipzig, or New York. Does anyone know of special collections that have preserved such material?
