McClellands - Kilbride Presbyterian Church
« on: Wednesday 20 October 10 17:56 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knows if where records from Kilbride Presbyterian Church are available, and if so, where I might find be able to access them.

I am looking for information regarding JAMES MCCLELLAND and ELIZABETH JANE CLARKE (known as Jane in the 1911 census) - in particular relating to their marriage, but also any details of their children/parents etc.

The information I have from the 1911 census is:
James McClelland (aged 43, a farmer)
Jane McClelland (aged 40, married for 12 years, 6 children)
Maggie McClelland (aged 12)
James McClelland (aged 9)
Mary McClelland (aged 7 - my great grandmother Mary Smyth McClelland - 15 May 1903 - 17 May 1993)
Robert McClelland (aged 6)
John McClelland (aged 4)
Eva McClelland (aged 2)
They were living at Douglasland, Kilbride and were Presbyterians. My father knows that they were linked to Kilbride Presbyterian Church.

The 1901 census shows James McClelland (at the same address) as living alone and unmarried, so I am not sure when the marriage would have taken place.

Additionally, my father has mentioned his grandmother's oldest sister, who is not mentioned on this census form - Annie McClelland, who later married Robert Simpson, so I was wondering if anyone knows anything about her.

Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.

The PRONI website says they hold copies of Kilbride Baptisms 1848 - 1923, marriages 1849 - 1934; marriage notices 1938 - 2001. In addition the Communicants Roll 1866 - 1887 is held by the Presbyterian Historical Society.

www.proni.gov.uk/index/research_and_records_held/catalogues_guides_indexes_and_leaflets/online_guides_and_indexes.htm

All marriages from 1845 and births from 1864, up to 1922, should also be on the LDS pilot site.

Note: PRONI closed until April 2011 but church microfilms have been moved to Cregagh Library to allow access during this period. See www.proni.gov.uk

Thank you very much for the quick and very helpful replies - that's given me a lot more to think about. I can't believe I didn't read the 1901 census well enough to notice that the housekeeper's name was Lizzie Jane Clarke, so thanks for spotting that! I will investigate the idea of the marriage in Donegore further, but think you may well be right.

Would you be Christopher's family.

It was Ethel, not born at the time of the 1911 census who married Robert Simpson.

Annie married Charles Robinson.  They were my grandparents.
