Hi Alan,
Here's a possible William for you from the 1841 census:
Giblets Hole, East Malling Ref HO107 460-01
Henry Browing age 30 ag lab
Ann do age 30
Ann do age 9
Clara do age 3
Henry do age 5
William do age 1
All born in county

on the 1851 census ref HO107 1612a
High Street, East Malling
Henry Browning head mar age 48 ag lab born East Malling
Maria do wife age 46 born East Malling
Henry do son age 14 ag lag born East Malling
William do son age 9 scholar born East Malling
Hester do dau age 7 born East Malling
Augusta do dau age 5 born East Malling

There are a few names and ages that don't match up between these two entries, but I couldn't find any other entries for a William of about the right age.

Hi Alan,
I've checked through the 1851 census for East Malling, but can find no trace of William there. Do you have any details of the births of subsequent siblings that might indicate another parish? Or maybe a later census or marriage entry that might provide a clue to their whereabouts.
There were quite a few Browning families on the 1841 and 1851 censuses, including another William Browning with father William, born a few years before yours. It seems to be a popular name.
xx Carol.

Hi Carol,

Thanks very much for that. They are the family.
I have his birth cert with his parents as William and Ann.
Shame about the 1851 but what you have found is brilliant.

Thanks again
