research certs from the GRO should only cost €4. The dearer certs are for legal purposes - passports etc and not necessary for family history research.

The research certs are photo-copies of the original registers which can be useful, as you get to see the original placenames etc. The transcripts for full certs can sometimes lose some of this detail if the writing is difficult to read.

My great-great-grandmother was a Catherine Foster who was living in Kilmore at time of her marriage, whose father was also John. I'd say it's pretty likely this is the same person. Did you manage to find out any more information about that branch?

For sure they were Church of Ireland on my tree.
