There is this one in St Helier

Baptism 22/04/1868
Birth 07/01/1868
Name Henry Persse Le Brun
Father William Thomas
Mother Charlotte Susan Persse
Father's occupation Gauger
Godparents The Father and  Elizabeth Bessin

However Le Brun is a very common name over here and the St Helier baptisms are the only ones that are on line - there could be others in the remaining 11 parishes.

If you are absolutely sure that this is your Henry apply to,

Superintendant Registrar
Registry Office
10, Royal Square
St Helier
JE2 4WA

or e-mail registeroffice @gov.je

However you need to be aware that certificates cost £20 and the only extra information you MAY get (not always) is the time and place of birth.

Do you have him in any censuses with parents of the right names? As I mentioned before there are LOTS of Le Bruns over here.

The Christian names are perfect as is the date of birth, and also the parents christian names and the mothers surname---------that's as clear as mud !!!!!!!!

I am really excited as I have been chasing this man ( my husband's grandfather) for the best part of 25 years,,,,,,,,,only we know the surname as 'de Burgh'. The family must have changed the name in about 1872/74....for what reason I don't know.

I did look up Jersey Archived and found a lot of entries for William le Brun, in what could be court cases, this could be Henry's father ( a William Thomas le Brun ). I wonder if he and the family 'ran away' to a new life ?????? I cannot access the records I found as they are only available in the reading rooms in Jersey. From 1873/4 they were in Ireland and then went to India, my husband is the 1st member of the family to 'return' to Ireland.

Thank you so much for your help.

Mary de Burgh, Ireland

Sounds like you need a few days R & R in Jersey, direct flights from both Belfast and Dublin (dependimg on the time of year!) How's your French as most of the old documents will not be in English?

I'm at the Archive tomorrow and I'll see if I can find a marriage for William and Charlotte.

I have found a wedding for them at Southampton. Sent away for the cert, for more info , should get it next week !

Yes I think a few days or even weeks in Jersey would be great, but finaces would restrict me at the monent.

I am most thankful to you for 'finding' Henry Persse Le Brun for me.

Mary

Is there any way I can find pre 1842 Births or Baptisms on Jersey.?????

Are Deaths recorded ,as well ,between 1861 and 1874. ?

Would anyone be willing to look up Deaths for Le Brun  for the above period ? ( Jersey)

Would anyone have any ideas on why a family would change their surname , in or about 1872 and 1874 the family changed from 'Le Brun' in Jersey and Ireland........then they were 'de Burgh' in India to the present day.

I have spent nearly 30 years 'Barking up the wrong tree ! '   looking for de Burgh's , where it should have been Le Brun.

The easiest way to find pre 1842 baptisms is for someone here to look them up for you, they are not as yet on-line, although they are in the process of being scanned.  Civil registration began in 1842 so before then you just have to hope that the person you are looking for was baptised.

Deaths between your dates are indexed and it's just a matter of looking through those indexes. With a name like Le Brun it would be helpful to have an idea of the parish.
