Hi again

Oh yes - that could be another possibility Jim - that home is still there.

I suppose the death cert or burial record would give the address.

I don't think the burial records held at the main library or Wirral Archives go up to 1978 but I'm not sure.

hi-neptune,
the thing is her brother died 1950 and his wife died 1958, non of the children knew she was up here, it was her granson in canada that gave us the idea, he seemed to think she was in a home run by nuns in birkenhead, so it has come as a surprise .

Hi Jim,

Just had a quick look on passenger lists from Canada to UK. Do you have any idea when she may have come back to the UK?

hi-Trish18,
The family cosisting of Felix hill his wife mary agnes, son felix jnr, son norman and daughter joan came back to england 10th sep 1938,
Felix jnr his wife violet and son james went back to canada 1953.

Felix snr died 10/11/1942 down south, joan died 1940 and norman moved to new zealand,so that left mary agnes hill on her own here.

Jim,

Is it likely she would have travelled to Montreal to visit her son?

This may be a perfectly useless piece of information but.....

There is a Mary A Hill, aged 65, housewife, who returned from Montreal, Quebec, into Liverpool on 2nd November 1954. No other passengers with the name of Hill.

The ship was the Empress of Australia, shipping line was Canadian Pacific.

It lists the permanent place of residence as England and the proposed permanent address as 53, Mason Avenue, Bidston, Birkenhead.

I know it's a long shot but any port in a storm (pardon the pun!)

Could possibly be that at the age of 65 (if it was her) she may have thought that she would not get many more opportunities to visit her son???

sorry didn't finish off last message, she must have come back to see her sister-in-law, my wifes mum who was very ill at the time.
