My mother Emily Florence Knox was born at Shoreditch UK in 1901, her family lived in Hackney, her mothers name was Emily and her fathers name was William.  She married Sidney Banks in December 1928 at the age of 27 years. If this is of any interest please contact  I live in Australia.

Update - I eventually found out that my grandmother was born in 1896 and was in fact 100 when she died!

That's solved that mystery then.  It's always a good idea to assume someone is older than they say they are.  My g.gran, after her first husband died "lost" 13 years in her age when she got together with my g.grandad as he was so much younger than her.

Yes, I ordered a birth certificate for her with the 1896 date - expecting it to belong to someone else but all the details confirmed it was her - she should have owned up and she could have had a telegram from the Queen! :)

Don't wish to interfere, but has anyone looked on the1939 register. At least it would give dated of birth & possibly chldren.

I've traced my nan now thank you - but not looked at the 1939 register - good to have some new sources :)

Matches her death certificate

But her husband is born 1908 which is why she has probably claimed the 5 year gap rather than the actual 12 year gap
