Harpurs of Grahamstown (and Durban?)
« on: Monday 01 November 10 10:43 GMT (UK) »
I wonder if anyone has any earlier Irish information on this branch of the Harpur family who migrated to South Africa.

John Harpur from Wexford married Francis Malloy of Cork on 19.11.1848.
They had 3 children, William, Margaret and Laurence.
John died on 15.3.1875.

at some time one son, William emigrated to South Africa. he married Jane Corcoran of County Cork in Grahamstown.

William died in 1887.

they had a large family. Frances, Jane, Ethel Mary, Amy Margaret, William Francis, Gertrude Ellen, Ivy Charlotte, Edward Jerome.
the children married in South Africa and from family stories 3 of them had families. I believe the two boys might have moved to Durban, Ivy Charlotte certainly did and lived in Fynlands on the Bluff.

If anyone has studied  this family and has any info on their ancestors in Wexford, Ireland i would love to hear from them.

Hi Anton

I believe your John and Francis are my ancestors!

I have a substantial amount of information regarding their son John who is the line that my family links through however I am struggling to find information for John and Francis (I do have a picture of their gravestone)

I realize your message was posted quite some time ago but I hope you are still keen to track this further or are willing to assist me.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Megan

Great to hear from you. I had forgotten about this message and only scanned the blog as the TV tonight is bad!
I have had some work done by a Grahamstown genealogist and so have death cert for John giving us vague details of birth and where in Ireland but nothing further back.

Happy to hear from you if you like via Private message.

Hi Anton

Well I am ever so glad that there was nothing good on!
I am embarrassed to say I had it wrong, I am not part of John's line but actually Laurence who you mention as one of the children. I also saw a previous post of yours regarding a family bible? Are you still looking for someone to look after it?
I would love to get your info so I can add it into our tree, I am not sure if you would perhaps be interested in what all we have.

Unfortunately I do not have the option to private message and I know it isn't wise to send me email to you in this forum, please let me know if you have any other ideas?

Megan
