Must have missed one as Robert dies age 2 and a half in Jan 1871
Other burials - children of John and Jane are:
John age 9 Jul 3 1864
George age 4 Feb 16 1868 address Old Furnace
Emma Frances age 19 Jul 19 1890  address Little London

It seems possible that the name may have become Selby.
John Selby age 82 died Cuckfield Infirmary buried 18 Nov 1905
Burial for Albert Selby age 32 Jun 6 1914 died in Hellingly Asylum.

I am sure you will get lots of info if you google Hellingly.    Asylum would tend to imply mental health problems.  It was not a workhouse as far as I know.  Built as an asylum I think.

I note that Sarah Agnes Selsby married Thomas Jennings, both of Cuckfield, on July 16th 1881.
And that Mary Ann Selsby married George Frederick Ruewell, both of Cuckfield, on May 1st 1880. And, strangely on that same Mayday, Warden Henry Starley also married Alice Gryner (other spellings occur) and one of my grandfathers was called Warden Selsby. That Christian name must have been more common a century ago, but to find a Warden and a Selsby getting married on the same (May)day at the same rural location seems intriguing. Especially if your grandfather is called Warden Selsby.

Hi and welcome
Warden is a common name in Cuckfield as there were very rich landowners of that name in the area.  Francis Warden lived at Butlers Green House and Warden Sergison at Cuckfield Park.  If you google them you will find a lot of information and I am sure many of the local people tried to curry favour by naming their children after them even years later.
