Has anyone heard of a Frederick Pinkerton who married Martha Wilson December 31st, 1898 in Belfast? Fathers William Pinkerton and James Wilson.

@ Jean_E
I am related to a Pinkerton.. My 3rd gt. uncle Thomas Mossop born March 19, 1833 in York, Ontario, Canada married Jane Pinkerton(1837-1871) in 1863.  They had 5 children, Sarah Catherine(1864-1954), Samuel(1865-1901), William James(1867-1947), Frances Mary(1868-1918), Robert Bruce(1870-1871).  Jane is the daughter of Samuel Pinkerton, born 1809 in Ballymoney, county Antrim.. I dont know when he migrated to Canada but married Catherine(Kitty)Walker(about 1809 county Tyrone) on Jan. 29,1835 in Simcoe county,Ontario, Canada.. They had 3 children including Jane that I have found.. Jane died in Simcoe county,Ontario, Canada and probably Samuel(about 1899) as well but I do not have verification of that. It also appears that his parents also migrated to Canada, James and Mary Jane(Janet)Drummond Pinkerton.

Hello, andid -

It seems County Antrim and the Ballymoney area was full of Pinkertons and still is. :) I have no idea if your Ballymoney Pinkertons are kin to mine.

As far as I know, my Ballymoney Pinkertons immigrated to upstate New York in the USA, with some of them going on to Central Wisconsin. Three of my Pinkertons (2 brothers and 1 first cousin), all from County Antrim, married 3 McAllister sisters, who were all from Belfast, Co. Antrim. Robert Pinkerton (b. 1823, son of Robert, b.1770 and Jane Lockridge Pinkerton) was 1st cousin to brothers Samuel David Pinkerton (b.1832), my direct ancestor, and John Pinkerton (b.1835). Robert (b. 1823) married Rachel McAllister. Samuel David and John married younger sisters of Rachel McAllister, Jane and Sarah Anne, respectively. They were all married in Washington Co., New York, USA.

All the best to you in your research.

@ Jane_E,

Have you done a DNA test? I have one through Ancestry.com and uploaded it to MyHeritage.. It would be interesting to know if there are family ties between your Pinkertons and mine.

Hello, andid -

My brother used the Ancestry.com DNA test a few years ago. If you, too, used Ancestry.com DNA, then, if there is a genetic kinship with your Pinkertons and mine, I think it would come up as a match by Ancestry.com DNA. My and my brother's surname is: DeLauche.

Through my brother's Ancestry.com DNA evaluation, he and I connected with direct descendants of my father, who we had not known about. It turns out our dad was a "rascal and a rouge" having abandoned his 1st wife and their 2 young children and then changing his identity while still in Canada. Until a few years ago, my brother and I did not know of our father's original name and personal history. It is much like the stories uncovered on the TV programs "Who Do You Think You Are" and "Finding Your Roots." :)

My Pinkertons are in a family line of my mother, by the way.

If a "DeLauche" shows up as a genetic match to you through the Ancestry.com DNA info, let me know. My Ancestry.com ID is: jdelauche.

All the best to you -
Jean
