Just to re-cap a router cannot get a virus but it can be hijacked, which is what happened to yours.

Morning oldhippy, I`m still pleased  to say it`s still OK, so what`s the difference between a virus and getting hijacked , and how would this have happened.

You had a virus, possibly downloaded as a video codec to view a website which as well as infecting your pc also altered the dns settings on your router.
Although you cleared out the virus the router settings remained changed so you still had the problem.

Trojan.Zlob.P is a Trojan horse that lowers security settings and attempts to steal information from the compromised computer. It may also alter router settings to open a back door.

I should have said that it is a good idea to change the default user name and password to your router since this is how the virus gains access to unsecured routers.
This is not the same as the password for wireless routers, this is for the router webpage which is used to change the router settings.
