Hi Helyg

Taid means grandfather in roughly Mid to North Wales ( as in tide )

Nain means grandmother  ( as in nine )

South Wales is Tadgu ( not sure of spelling )
Mamgu for Nain !!!!

I hope that  explains it for you

Thank you nainmaddie. I had a vague recollection of hearing the terms --- now I understand what they mean! Grateful that you have taken the time. Helyg

Hello suzard and keyboard86. Thank you so much for all the time and trouble you have taken to find all this information. I wonder if I can bother you a little further? I have been looking at maps showing Presteigne and the surrounding area. I can't find Nantmel, Llanbdarntawr. I was wondering if you could tell me where I could look? (I can feel a visit coming on!)  I would also love to know when (if) Emma and David show up on census for Tredegar because I believe they moved there from Presteigne. Can I get back further than 1841 by looking on www.familysearch.org and/or FreeBMD?  Thank You both very much for all your help! helyg

Hi Heylg, I found Nantmel by using google maps it is currently classed at Llandrindod Wells, as for pre 1841 census Freebmd will only take you to Sept 1837, and I find the new Pilot Search on Family Search useful for finding BMD's even futher back, but I am sure someone will provide better links for you to assist in your searching!

It seems they are in Tredegar at the time of the 1911 census

You will have to buy credits if you wish to view the transcript or image

We are not allowed (copyright reasons and others) to do look ups for teh 1911 census

You can search the index free.

Possibly they stayed in Tredegar area as there are BMD's for the family after 1911 registered in Bedwellty district

Hi suz,
Thank you once again for your advice. Can I just clarify ---- where would I buy credits from? Do I need to do this? Where is the best place to seek free information. Apologies --- still a bit confused about all these sources and over where money is best spent. Before I go --- in your opinion, what is the best way of recording all the information I gather? Regards. helyg
