Hi I'm trying to trace a George Wass ,  I think he was my grt grt granmothers father, I am trying to find out where he was born, I know his daughter Elizabeth Wass was born in Derbyshire.

any help please

you will see that Wass family in Garston since 1843....on www.lan-opc.org.uk/Search/indexp.html you will find
George Wass born 22nd February 1804
babtised 1st April 1804 at St Paul ,Liverpool
father George Wass ...mother Susannah
abode Bixter Street
occ Joiner

so the name George Wass  goes back to 1780`s here in Liverpool.....
you will see a birth for George E Wass in 1915 here on W.Derby reg district on freebmd...Mothers maiden name Spencer
my mate is in his 60`s and is G.Wass here in Garston...if you find that your George Wass was from Garston ,let me know and I`ll contact my mate for you

Just checked on www.lancashirebmd.org.uk and
John Wass married Margaret Spencer in 1904 West Derby register office or Registrar attended
these were the parents of George E Wass b 1915.

  thnks for your help about the wess family. can't belive your friends surname is Wass.

this is what I know. my grt grt grandfather William Barber married Elizabeth Wass 1st Dec 1839 william was born 1819 in Chesterfield derbyshire and Elizabeth was born 1816 in baterley Derbyshire.

I am trying to go back to her parents who I think also could come from derbyshire

I don`t know how far Staveley is from Baterley ...both Derby....
a babtism 9th march 1817 in Staveley....father George Wass mother Sarah
a babtism 2nd february 1817 in Ault Hucknall father William mother Hannah Coope
the only 2 I can find in Derby around your Elizabeths birth........back soon

Staveley to Baterley is 18 miles
and Ault Hucknall is 9 miles from Staveley / 15 miles from Baterley...now spelt Butterley
is the George Wass /Sarah Wass the parents you were thinking of in your first post ?
could Baterley possibly be Staveley ? and somehow been mistranscribed

Hi thanks for that. looking at the info I've got off family, Elizabeth Wass was babtism was on 9th march 1817. so that matches so George wass must be her father, and mother Sarah....

now the hard part is finding out more about her family , where do you think I should start, I've tryed LDS but no luck there.

Sorry Jan.....Lancs and Chesh are where most of mine are from and I know very little of Derbys prior to 1837...LDS was where I looked....obviously you now need the marriage of
George Wass to Sarah....if you go backwards looking for babtisms of Wass in Staveley before 1817....then when you find the earliest babtism with parents George/Sarah ...about a year before would be the approx year of their marriage
