From Lincs to OZ 1840
« on: Thursday 11 November 10 22:27 GMT (UK) »
The vessel 'JOHN' from London 1840
departed Gravesend on September 12th, 1839
with Captain Alexander Smith,
arrived Port Adelaide on February 5th, 1840
and on arrival on board were;

BELL, Ann and children Sarah, Frances
BELL, Isaiah Born 1827 Wainfleet St Mary, Lincolnshire, England
BELL, John
BELL, Joseph
BELL, Moses Born 1834 Wainfleet St Mary, Lincolnshire, England

I think Ann's husband had just recently died and she was joining up with family already in OZ.
Can anyone advise on the ages of children Sarah,Frances,John and Joseph?

IGI has these baptisms with parents William BELL and Ann

Some entries have been submitted by members of the LDS church and thus may not be reliable .
Extract entries are from local church or other records.  Some of this family have both types of record.

Benjamin Providence BELL - submitted entry
Birth: 19 MAR 1820 Wainfleet, , Lincoln, England
Death:  26 AUG 1893   Cootamundra, New South Wales, Australia
  Father:  William BELL  Family
  Mother:  Ann PARKER

Azuba Maria BELL - another submitted entry
Birth:  21 OCT 1821   Wainfleet St Mary'S, , Lincoln, England
Death:  1903   Cootamundra, New South Wales, Australia
Parents:
  Father:  William BELL  Family
  Mother:  Ann PARKER
There is also an extracted entry which gives her baptism date as 21 OCT 1822 at Wainfleet Saint Mary, Lincoln,

Isaiah BELL (submitted entry)
Birth:  JUL 1827   Wainfleet St Mary'S, , Lincoln, England
Death:  27 JAN 1860   Clarendon Near, Richmond, New South Wales, Australia
Burial:  29 JAN 1860   Richmond, New South Wales, Australia
  Father:  William BELL  Family
  Mother:  Ann PARKER
There is an extract entry which gives his baptism as 12 FEB 1827 Wainfleet Saint Mary, Lincoln, England

Elizabeth OR Eliza BELL (submitted entry)
 Birth:  05 JUL 1829   Wainfleet,St Mary, , Lincoln, England
   Father:  William BELL  Family
  Mother:  Ann PARKER

 MARIA BELL -
baptism  2 JUL 1818 Wainfleet Saint Mary, Lincoln, England  - extract entry

MOSES BELL -
baptism 28 APR 1834 Wainfleet Saint Mary, Lincoln, England - extract entry.

Joseph BELL,
baptism 18 MAY 1828,  Wainfleet-St Mary, Lincoln, England - extract entry

This list does not correspond exactly with your list - perhaps some of them were baptised with one name but used another?  Some of them may have come separately - Azuba and Benjamin for example.

Just to try to 'join the dots' ...... this is the first part of the family to arrive in OZ.
.......................................................................................................................
On board the Andromache when she disembarked at Port Jackson on 31 January 1839 were;
William Anderson 24 farm servant from Lincolnshire.
His wife 22 unnamed from Lincolnshire.
Benjamin Bell 20 farm servant unmarried from Lincolnshire.
Maria Bell 17 sister to Benjamin unmarried from Lincolnshire.
Thomas Pascoe 27 Brewer from Cornwall.
His wife 23 unnamed  from Cornwall.
Fanny 23 his sister unmarried.
Benjamin probably struck up a shipboard romance with Fanny Pascoe as the married that same year in NSW and the reference for the marriage is;  V1839168 23B/1839
Benjamin and Fanny had the following children all born NSW.
William 1841
George D 1842
George P 1843
John 1852
Edwin 1855

............................................................
Maria (above) was Azuba Maria ........ I think

Just a comment on the children in NSW to BENJAMIN and FANNY.

On BDM NSW there are a number life events to  other probable offspring of the  couple which may be worth your looking at.

This one I think would be very likely the right parents..

Birth

Reg.7293 In 1868
BELL,    AZUBA C.
Father    BENJAMIN
 Mother FRANCES
At BRAIDWOOD

There are a number of others including a SOPHIA who went on to have 14 children after her marriage.

Benjamin (1) married Frances (Fanny) Pascoe 1839 as I said in  #4 and their son Benjamin (2) born 1848 married Frances Barker 1867 Braidwood NSW and Azubah C b 1868 that you found was of this generation.
I have 'nailed down' most of the family in NSW but what I really need to know is 'can anyone advise on the ages of children Sarah,Frances,John and Joseph who arrived with Ann on the vessel 'John' in 1840?.
BELL Mrs William nee Ann PARKER (w), Isaiah, Joseph, Moses arrived in SA 1840-02-05 on vessel 'John' from London 1839-09-12

The passenger list shows the following;
BELL, Ann and children Sarah, Frances
BELL, Isaiah Born 1827 Wainfleet St Mary, Lincolnshire, England
BELL, John
BELL, Joseph
BELL, Moses Born 1834 Wainfleet St Mary, Lincolnshire, England

You actually had not mentioned him (BENJAMIN 2), and I had not spotted him either. ;D

Hoping some immigration experts are able to find what you want.

Joseph BELL,
baptism 18 MAY 1828,  Wainfleet-St Mary, Lincoln, England - extract entry

Obviously this is not his actual birthdate, however given that Moses was baptised in 1834 and Isiah in 1827 it woudl seem probable that 1828 is close.

I could not see the other children - Frances, Sarah and John - on IGI.

Edit to add:

One image for the Andromache has Benjamin's sister as Maria BELL

Another image for the list of single women on the Andromache shows:
Azeba (sic) BELL, 17, Nurserymaid, Lincolnshire, can read & write, imported by Mr Marshall

The third image shows
Azuba BELL, all other infor the same, states she is daughter of William BELL, farmer of Wainfleet.  Her names seems to have been written as Aziba and the 'i' overwritten with a 'u'.
