Checked PR's in library, found a John Kirtland baptised in Islip which is the village near Charlton, 12/3/1748 son of Paul and Jane

Well.  After searching the marraiges index for Paul Kirtland and Jane, I found this:

Marriage - Hampton Poyle  22nd Feb 1747 - Paul Cutland to Jane Tarver. :)

I then went to Hampton Poyle PR's and confirmed it.

Hampton Poyle is about 3 miles West of Charlton on Otmoor and Oddington, and about 1 mile north of Kidlington.

Marriages for anyone with the christian name of Paul, are as common as rocking horse manure. :o

I went through all marriages from KA - KY looking for Paul KIRTLAND, and none came up. >:(

I would bet my pension on this one I've found.  But it's up to you. ;)

BAPTISM - 10 March 1717. Islip.  Paul son of John & Mary Kirtland.

MARRIAGE - Oddington - 29th Oct. 1710.  John Cutland to Mary Smith.

Hope this helps.

Steve. :)

Hi Steve  :)

Thank you for all that, looks like I am on the right track, what is being found seems to fit just right - I think I got thrown off by John and Martha having no children named Paul and Jane (maybe he didn't like his parents?  :o )

I agree Paul is uncommon so very likely he is the only one, especially as Kirtland is not so common either, however it is spelt! The marriage for John to Mary Smith is interesting, I could not find a marriage that fit, but if Oddington is not so far from Islip/Charlton etc. then it might be the one.

Thanks to you both!

Hi Kells,

The John Cutland/Kirkland-Smith marriage, is the only one that I could find within the given area and  time frame.

If you look on google maps, you'll see the area and all the Villages and towns mentioned.  All fairly close to each other.

Baptisms for John Cutland/Kirtland are going to a bit harder though.  Shame his name wasn't Zebediah or something like that.

Oh yes.....you're very welcome. :)

Hi Kells

Steve is right, it is literally a hop, skip and jump between Islip, Charlton on Otmoor and Oddington. Can easily walk it.
