I'm having some trouble finding the birth of my 4x Great Grandmother Elizabeth McKenzie nee Sutherland. She Died on 13 February 1860 on the Isle of Coll in Argyll, aged 75 and on every census i have her in her birthplace is listed as Canongate, Edinburgh. On her Death Certificate her Parents are Adam Sutherland, Porter (Deceased) & Janet - Maiden name unknown. She Married John McKenzie on 18 May 1805 in Canongate, Edinburgh & Elizabeth's Father is again Adam Sutherland.
Yet using the age on the Death Certificate and ages on the Census' to guess a year of birth, i have been unable to find her Birth in Edinburgh, or anywhere.
Adam Sutherland died 17 May 1817 in Leith South, Edinburgh. Using his age at death i estimated his birth year as 1848.
Elizabeth was more often than not listed as either Betsy, Betsey or Betty and rarely Elizabeth yet i believe her birth name was Elizabeth as her eldest daughter was also named Elizabeth, after herself.
