Crawfords / Clough / Racavan
« on: Monday 22 November 10 01:03 GMT (UK) »
Hi there
looking for any info on my ancestors - James Crawford, John Crawford 1750 -?  married Miss Gamble, Robert Crawford 1780 - 1834 married Rose McElheron (daughter of Duncan), Charles Crawford 1820 - 1891 married Mary Jane McKay
Apparently may be buried in Clough - would it be the old ruined church?
Any info or leads gratefully received!
Many thanks

Would you believe i am sitting reading a transcript about these very people trying to figure out if they are related to my line of Crawfords.

What are you after? If i can be of help i'll do my best. There's quite a lot on this booklet but it was typed in the 60s or 70s by looks of it and isnt on a pc file to my knowledge.

By the way, if you are able to connect the Racavan Crawfords to my Clough Crawfords i'll be delighted!

Hi there
The info I have is James Crawford, who moved to Ireland from Scotland
John Crawford 1750 - who married a Miss Gamble
Robert Crawford 1780 - 18/1/1834 married Rose McElheron and was a farmer
Charles Crawford 1820 - 15/8/1891 who married Mary Jane McKay and was a farmer in Brecamph, parish of Skerry
and Jane Carsen Crawford 15/6/1867 - 11/12/1948 who moved to NZ and married a Redmond
I've attached a couple of photos, one of Charles and Mary Jane Crawford, and the other is Jane CarsenCrawfords siblings, she had already moved to New Zealand.  Sorry not sure who is who in that photo
I don't have any other documents relating to the family
Hopefully this may tie in with what you have!
All the best for the festive season
Thanks and cheers
Alan

Hi i havent heard of Brecamph before. Are you sure it isnt Inshamph? This is where my McCay/McKay line are from and i'm sure that Mary Jane McKay and Charles Crawford must tie into my lines somehow...knowing the family history in this area they all intermarried (presumably to keep the land in the same families)

I'll transcribe the first few paragraphs of what i have:

THE CRAWFORD FAMILY TREE
This booklet offers to you, the reader, as much information as it has been possible to glean concerning Robert Crawford, his wife Rose McElheron and their descendants over 6 generations. Narratives of the Crawford family are not readily available, however, thanks to the research efforts of Jeff Hazeltine, and the good memory of John Hamilton Crawford of Antrim, we have a clear record of the movements of this family prior to their dispersal to the "four corners" of the globe.

Apart from Gamble's endeavours in Ohio and Michigan, U.S.A. we can convey little of the long voyages, hardships and pioneering spirit which established Crawfords so thoroughly in U.S.A., Canada, Australia and New Zealand, as well as those remaining in Northern Ireland, over the ensuing two centuries.
.....

There are family trees towards the back of the document and several photocopied photos.

If it's of interest then i can look into scanning it as i'm not going to transcribe it all!!!

Thanks for that
I'm pretty sure I have seen a copy of that booklet, I was in touch with (I seem to recall) Jeff Hazeltine several years ago - in fact I'm pretty sure that is where I got my info from!
I'll look further into the Brecamph/Inshamph location and get back to you if I discover anything concrete
Many thanks again
Cheers
