Hi Dermot
We think this Thomas Liggett + my Grandfather Alex were brothers, we also know of another brother James.
Also we can name their children for you, if required.
We are making some more inquires from my Aunt who was born in Druminargle beside the Thomas and Ellen Home.

Morning from Australia.  My gr-gr-grandmother Jane Bailey nee Liggett born circa 1833, possibly Ballyreagh, Armagh, to parents Robert Liggett (sometime Weaver/Labourer) and Jane Grimes.  She married Joseph Bailey, carpenter, son of James Bailey & Elizabeth McNeight/McKnight, of Tandragee, at  Acton Parish Church 9May1856.  Their eldest son Robert John Bailey was born circa 1857 at Ballyreagh and remained with his Liggett grandparents until both died, before he immigrated to Australia in 1883, to join his father and mother who had immigrated with one infant child in 1863.  They also left behind his sister Elizabeth, who immigrated to Australia just after she was married in 1886.  She married Edward McClune/McLune of Cordrain in 1884.

I have been revisiting these Ancestors of recent.  Trying to piece together Jane's family.  I examined all Banbridge District registers available online for births, marriages, deaths, and came up with a possible list of Siblings.  They are:-
John Liggett, farmer of Mullaglass (1837-1904);
Jane Liggett wife of Joseph Bailey to Australia (1833-1905);
Samuel Liggett, farmer of Tullyhugh (1834-1909) * not sure on this one;
Robert Liggett farmer to New Zealand (1836-1918);
Ann Liggett wife of James Adair of Belfast (1838-1911);
Margaret Liggett wife of John Muldrew of Gilford (1840-1897);
Mary Liggett wife of William John Johnston of Aughlish (1842-1920);
Alexander Liggett carpenter of Aughlish (1854-1880).

I have a lot of cross links with them all as witnesses and sponsors of marriages and children.  My gr-grandfather showed up as present at a few also before he immigrated to Australia in 1883. including his grandfather Robert Liggett, and Uncle Alexander's death.

My problem is the period of time between about 1800-1850/64 records just aren't there.

I recently read an account of family research done on the Whaley family which had an early intermarriage with an Elizabeth Liggett of Tullyhugh, which was exciting and details access to records of the Ballymore Parish Registers actually at the church.

Is there anyone out there a Liggett who lives in Tandragee area?  Pulling my hair out here in Australia.

The informant was her granddaughter Maggie Thompson.

Thomas and Ellen had at least one daughter.

Mary Liggett married John Thompson on 4th November 1886 in Acton Parish Church. Her father was Thomas (a farmer) and she resided at Ballinagreagh (sic). The two witnesses were James Liggett and Ellen Liggett.

Hi Lorna, it's possible higher up the ancestors they are connected, very likely actually.
Your Thomas Liggett married Ellen Murphy 19April 1855 in the Registry Office Banbridge.  Thomas a Farmer, of Shaneglish/Tanderagee, but his father was Samuel Ligget (Farmer) I need Robert Liggett.

Ellen Murphy was of Druminure and father Henry Murphy (Carpenter).

My Jane Liggett (gr-gr-grandmother) married Joseph Bayly (gr-gr-grandfather) 9/5/1856 at Acton, her father is listed as Robert Ligget (farmer). Given the names of their children, one was called Samuel Thomas Bailey. It draws the conclusion of their connection.

It's just the records for 1800-1850's which I desperately would like to know where to look.

Regards  Debra Lyons nee Bailey.
