WRIGHTS in CHALFONT ST. GILES
« on: Thursday 25 November 10 19:23 GMT (UK) »
Hello -

From the parish register of Chalfont St Giles: "June 5th, 1777: ROBERT, son of WILLIAM and ANN WRIGHT."

Robert was my g-g-g-grandfather - can anyone shed any light on William and Ann, and/or any other Wrights in the area ? They are proving elusive!

Many thanks as always.

Wright, Gisborne, Stephenson, Weatherly, Hebb, Gray, Hudson, Belohlavek;
Middlesex: Hillingdon, Colham Green, Uxbridge, Hayes;
Yorkshire (East Riding): North Frodingham, Rise, Leven, Driffield;
Lincolnshire: Sleaford.
Bohemia, Czech Republic, Czechoslovakia, Pisek, Pribram, Prague.

Have you checked out the 05 JUL 1759 Wooburn marriage between Wm & Ann Wright?

Ahhh, thanks so much for this. I may have noticed it at some stage and thought the marriage far too early to fit Robert's birth date, but I realise now that that is nonsense. William and Ann probably produced many offspring over a long and fruitful marriage ...
Thanks again. I will do some further spadework.
Best wishes,
FW

Incidentally there is a gaggle of Wrights that seem to appear in Chalfont St g from c1744 and onwards. It looks like a whole family decamped there from somewhere else, possibly Wooburn.

If you use the Hugh Wallis site and search the particular parishes for the Wright surname it becomes much clearer:-

You can imagine how frustrating it is losing everyone at Robert Wright's baptism. Other branches of the family (not Wrights) have proved surprisingly easy to get back a long way, but I'm afraid I had very little idea of what to do until you came along.
Viva Rootschat, I say, and tireless people like you!
