Is anyone researching Rutherford families of Roxburgh please?
Three siblings Thomas, Joan (Joy) and Agnes Rutherford born mid to late 1920's Roxburgh (all now deceased) believe first born Thomas died in Ystradgynlais, Powys?

Sparkle,  it would help if you named the parents and if the siblings were born in  Roxburgh village itself or Roxburghshire in general.

Joan Watson STEPHEN born 1889 Tayock Cottage, Dun, Angus
married George Gray RUTHERFORD (born Yarrow 1901)
in Girnwood, Roberton, Roxburgh 1924.

Their children were:
1) THOMAS  Rutherford b 1925 Peelbraehope, Parish of Cavers, Roxburgh
2) JOAN ('Joy') Birrell Brown RUTHERFORD born 1927 Fountain Hall, Roxburghshire
3) AGNES ('Nan') Robson RUTHERFORD b1927 Fountain Hall,
Roxburghshire

Then George died following an accident in 1930 in Stow, Midlothian
and his widow Joan Watson Rutherford (nee Stephen)
married John James Gilroy. She died in Galashiels, Selkirkshire.

Hoping to find living relatives of the three children

Based on a year of birth of 1925 +/- 3 there's 16 possibilities for his death.

JOAN ('Joy') Birrell Brown RUTHERFORD born 1927 Fountain Hall, Roxburghshire

She died in Dalkeith iin 2002. The info on the informant may take you directly to a living relative.  Married twice.

3) AGNES ('Nan') Robson RUTHERFORD b1927 Fountain Hall, Roxburghshire

She died in Penicuik and Glencorse registration district in 1987, married once.


It should be straightforward to find the marriage records.  In the years involved it's then straightforward to find the names of any kids as the indexes show the surname of the mother.  Then trace those kids forward !  Seemples !

Dear Wullie thanks for your replies above.
Re your suggestion that JOAN ('Joy') Birrell Brown RUTHERFORD married twice,
I am now in contact with relatives who say no, she only married once,
and her death certificate confirms this. Thought I'd best post this correction.

The Rutherford branch I am following is Thomas Rutherford
who married Agnes Robson in 1887 Glendale, Northumberland.
Their son George Gray Rutherford b 1901  Craighead, Yarrow,
was the husband of my great aunt.
