OCCUPATION - Help please? COMPLETED
« on: Monday 29 November 10 10:16 GMT (UK) »
On a former census this man was described as ship's cook he was only about 16 at the time - seems young to be helping feed the masses but . . .

I can't decipher this though - possibly Master something but  . . .  it doesn't look like chef - or does it??    sorry first one after the ditto -  top of snip!

I think the first word is 'waiter'.
The second word is in a different hand, and has probably been added later by someone categorizing occupations.

If the first word is waiter, is the second word Inn?

It could be - that would be the occupational classification.

Thank you both - the W is like that in Wife isn't it!  Hadn't connected the two.

That seems fine then - bet his wife was glad he was at home instead of away at sea!
