Looks like something close to "Borout" to me (not at all like the "on" in "Jones" but quite like the "ou" in "Labourer", see also the "t" to at the end of "Servant").

The note I think to the right indicates though that this was later modified "for Barout read Baron".

Hi jorose,

I enlarged the note and have to say it does look like baron, still no marriage other than the Elizabeth Burrow JONES to William THOMAS on FreeBMD.

To confirm mother's maiden name what about ordering the birth certificate of William Henry THOMAS

Did a search 1850 - 1854 on FreeBMD only these two came up -  can't be sure whether it is the 1851 that is your William :-\
Perhaps you could ask for help on the Gloucester board

Hi to all that have offered help on this thread, I personally believe, that the family that is in Islington in 1861 ie the Roughsedges, contains the correct William Henry Thomas, this is the 1861 for the William/Caroline

Hello all I sent away for the birth certificate of William Henry Thomas born in the December quarter of 1851 there were
8 names .

There was only one name for Bristol so I paid the money and sent for the certificate.

What do you think I got the wrong one, that had nothing to do with me.

I looked at the list again and I should have chosen the one from Clifton which is located in Bristol.

How hard is it to have the mothers maiden name on the indexes. So now I have pay again to get the correct one.

This is a good learning curve.

Regards
NC

Hi NC

I was searching for Roughsedge and came across this post. Can't help with that line as they are not the one's I'm searching for. However, the Ellen Jones who married in Queensland is certainly on my tree as are her parents William Wilson Jones and Margaret Sherlock.

I can't read the exact place in Cheshire from the marriage certificate that states where Ellen was born but she was born in Hoylake and baptised in Holy Trinity Hoylake on 9 July 1850. She is my 2nd cousin 4x removed  ;D

Hi again NC

Don't want to throw a spanner in the works but I can't find William arriving in Australia in 1871 on the Royal Dane, I can however, find Ellen Jones arriving on that ship in Brisbane on 25 September 1869. I have her on the 1851 and 1861 Census in Hoylake but not 1871 so it would seem to fit.

Just found something very interesting though and could be another red herring but the old IGI which is still accessible has the following baptism entry:

William Henry Thomas
Pedigree
    Male

Event(s):
   Birth:
01 NOV 1851
   Christening:
04 JUN 1871     St Peters, Hereford, Hereford, England
   Death:
   Burial:

Parents:
    Father:    William Thomas
Family
    Mother:    Elizabeth Bowen

This may mean he was baptised as an adult, and just because the baptism is in Herefordshire doesn't mean he wasn't born in Bristol.

Any thoughts on this ?

Thank you for the help I final got  William Henry Thomas
birth certificate.

He worked for the Queensland railway they showed he was
born in 1851 in November in Bristol.

The only one showed a William Henry Thomas Born Bristol
1851 in November when I got  it back after spending $28.00
it was not the correct one.

Then I had another look and there was a William Henry Thomas born Clifton which is a suburb of Btistol which I did not know. So another $28.00 later and this is the correct one.

His mother was "Elizabeth Burrow Jones" her mother
and father where "William Jones" and  "Elizabeth Burrows"
