Alexander McKinnon Tobermory

Hello, everyone from Oz.  I knew my great grandfather Alexander MacKinnon (he dropped the 'a' from his name on emigration to Australia) came from Scotland but not where.  I just found a death notice naming his birthplace as Tobermory which is in the Isle of Mull.  He died in 1929 in his 89th year (in Aust) making his birth year around 1840.  I do not know who his parents were.  (All I remember is a story about our Mackinnon ancesters helping Bonnie Prince Charlie.)   I think Alexander may have been in the Crimean War as years ago I was shown an old photo and told he had been a soldier.  He married my ggrandmother Margaret Fraser from Inverness here in 1872. Could anyone please see if there is any information about him at all.  I am sorry I have so little to go on.  I would greatly appreciate anything about him at all.  Thank you..

Thank you very much Dazey and Sharon.  He might be any of those three.  His death reg hads mother and father unknown so I know no names at all....My Alex died here in Australia so I guess any of the Alex's that died there cannot be him..is there any way to tell?  ...I have no birthdate to go on either...
