Many thanks for the links you gave. They are entirely fascinating.

As far as the copy of the Will that I hold in pdf format,it is about 1mb in size, apparently too large on its own to put up here.Being techno-illiterate I'm unable to split it up.

OK, techno-illiterate, try this:

1. Go to www.exp-systems.com/PDFreDirect/Downloads.htm?1

2. Click DOWNLOAD NOW under PDF reDirect v2

3. Click DOWNLOAD NOW again (at C-Net) - it's free of charge.

4. Choose SAVE FILE : the file downloads to your PC

5. Search your computer for a file named Install_PDFR_v252.exe

(sorry - without knowing your system I can't make this bit any simpler)

6. When you have found it, double click on it to start installing it

7. Follow instructions: you may be asked if you want to RUN the program - the answer is YES; you may be asked to confirm you agree to terms and conditions - again the answer is YES.

8. When installation is complete, open your 12-page pdf. Do whatever you usually do to print (CTRL + P?), and when the list of printers comes up you should find a new one called PDF REDIRECT V2. Choose that printer.

9. Choose to print only page 1. (On my system I get a box that says PRINT RANGE - ALL / PAGES from X to Y). Click GO or whatever to start printing.

10. Up comes a box with a pic of page one bottom right: click on that pic. A new pdf of one page only opens.

11. Go to FILE menu and choose SAVE AS. Save your new 1-page pdf somewhere convenient (I suggest Desktop).

12. Close everything down and post the single page at RootsChat.

NB: You can follow the same procedure to make pdfs of any document - a v handy facility.

Hmmmm, suggest whomever takes up each torch claims it on here. Yes it is English and not all that bad a handwriting, but if a dozen people take on the same one it will be a waste as they could have worked on the next and so on...
( ;) No this is not a claim )
