The second image certainly looks like 3 fleur-de-lys. IF it was gold on blue, then that would be the arms of the French Royal family. That would not necessarily mean the altar belonged to them, of course, could just be a mark of respect. (I am assuming the altar is very old, it appears to be so from the photo)

Better luck with the other pictures !  :)

Hi  :)
Another shield just  3 plain stripes leaning left.

The other shield that was similar but with crescent in top right of shield.

The final one I seem to have lost completely was of a shield with a curved fish-will have to take another picture :-[

Thanks

Hi Elsa Mary

What a magnificent piece of work your altar is!

See links: I think the cross on top is called a "cross bottony"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bottony

and the other shield might be "bendy of eight". Or possibly "three bendlets", depending on the top right corner.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Bendy_of_eight_demo.svg

Hope this helps, but without any knowledge of the colouring it won't give a firm identification of the families concerned. Might be helpful for elimination purposes though.
